The village of Maru is situated in South West Romania. Allthough very picturesque, set in the foothills of the Carpethian Mountains, life is hard and living conditions very poor. Most houses now have electricity allthough sometimes in the Winter days without power. Running water is now in one part of the village but in the 'roma' side there is none. In the summer this doesn;t present much of a problem, people wash themselves and their clothes in the river. Water is collected from the wells but having recently tested this we found it to be polluted.
