Equal Opportunities Policy (2007)

Equal Opportunities Policy for Volunteers

Education for Children in Need aims to ensure that no volunteer applicant or volunteer receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, gender orientation, nationality, religion, ethnic or national origin, age, gender, gender reassignment or marital status, sexual orientation or disability. Selection criteria and procedures are regularly reviewed to ensure that individuals are treated on the basis of their relevant merits and abilities. All volunteers will be given equal opportunity and access to training to enable them to progress both within and outside the organisation. ECN is committed to a programme of action to make this policy effective and will bring it to the attention of all volunteers.

Equal Opportunities for children and young people within our programs

• We treat all children equally and value them individually.
• All children will have equal access to our activities which promotes all aspects of gender, culture, sexuality, language and ability.
• We will monitor and evaluate our practice regularly to secure equal opportunity in all our activities.
• We believe that all children should be treated fairly, be given positive responses.
• Volunteers should not make unsubstantiated judgements and assumptions about children or adults and should be positive role models. Volunteers should respond on the spot to any prejudiced comment or actions from adults or children
• We value all verbal and non-verbal languages equally.
• We differentiate activities when planning so that all children can participate at their level.
• We aim to ensure our equipment and resources reflect all aspects of gender, culture, sexuality, language and ability.
We aim to provide a setting which reflects the multicultural society in which we live and we are committed to promoting race equality.
