These are some of the children we have worked with since beginning our work in the village. Many children are left to fend for themselves in the summer while parents work on the mountains fruit picking for days at a time. Many children are cared for by the grandmother while the parents are in Europe usually working for less than the minimum wage on the 'black' market. The mother is always the 'childcarer' and have little or no education. Physical abuse is common and accepted. Health care is minimal. Health education is non-existent. Education is poor and very selective. Many of the Roma families are discriminated against by the authorities and in education.
