school activity week 2006

Creative Learning in Schools

Timisoara July 2006

The activities week was held in a roma school in Timisoara for 70 Roma and Romanian children. The week was part organised by the 6th form students of Hayesfield school, Bath who also raised £1400 towards the cost. Many of these children do not attend school regularly, some as young as 8 are made to work to help the family.

Romania's disinclination to foster creativity cannot be separated from its social problems ...creative children present a problem for society.

The 'Activity Week' as well as giving children the opportunity to be 'creative' in art, dance, drama and music, also gave a chance for children to mix and begin to understand each others ethnic differences, Thank you to all the volunteers from England and Canada and all the Romanian teachers for making this possible. A special thanks to Ali Blofeld who managed the fundraising and volunteer team from Hayesfield.
